If you know one thing about Jack, it is that he loves trains. Loves, loves, loves trains. We haveGeoTrax set up downstairs and he has 2 train tracks set up in his bedroom. At the center of this train obsession is Thomas The Tank Engine. We have Thomas and several of his train friends, both in the wooden and trackmaster (battery operated) type. We have Thomas toothpaste. We have Thomas and Friends DVDs. We have Thomas books. We have the Thomas Web site bookmarked on our computer.
The people who created Thomas have capitalized on this childrens money maker by traveling around the country to various railways with a real sized Thomas train for kids, and kids at heart, to ride.
We surprised Jack today with an hour plus drive out to Perris, CA to spend our Day Out With Thomas at the Orange Empire Railway. Jack was in awe of being able to see Thomas. We played in the activity tent (the kids played on Thomas tables with various trains); we saw model trains, retired trains, trolleys; we went into the storybook area and the retail shop; Jack hugged and kissed Sir Topham Hat before getting a picture with him; and of course, we rode Thomas.
Jack enjoyed the day and Brooke did too, although she didn't get it the way Jack did. Scott and I were a bit disappointed with what we got for the price we paid. But in the end, it was worth it to see the happiness on the kiddos' faces.
And for those who know anything about Scott, it is his love for college football. Every Saturday he is permanently on the couch, all day, every Saturday. It just goes to show you his love for Jack -- to leave the house, even with multiple good college games playing, to spend the day with us visiting Thomas.
Sounds like it was really an interesting day for the kiddos. Thomas had to be an excitement for them both (Especially Jack)
