Eye & ENT

EYE -- I took Jack to a 6 month (although it was really 7 months later...) check in for his eye. Last time was with a new eye doctor and he said the deviation in Jack's left eye was at 16. To give some reference, eye correction surgery shoots to get the deviation at or below 10, so 16 isn't that far off. At our appointment this month, the deviation was at 12. Lower, but not significantly where it means much. It could be that last time Jack was extra tired. But interestingly enough, the Dr. said he saw slight deviation in Jack's right eye. He suggested we stop patching the right eye (which we were doing to make his left eye stronger) because if we do that, it could be making the right eye lazy. Great! We put in a request to see if insurance will pay for vision therapy, but of course they won't. The good news, Jack eye sight is good, he can self correct very well with near objects and can correct when forced for further distance objects (such as closing and reopening his eye). So for now, we'll just tell his teacher and request he sit closer to the front of the class.... ya, he'll love that one!

EAR -- We also had a follow up with the ENT. This was the first time we saw the ENT since his tubes/adenoids surgery last month. The intent was to check that the tubes are in place and if so, then get a hearing test to check his hearing levels. Good news is that the tubes are in place and functioning. Now we wait for the hearing test referral, go to that and hopefully have his hearing back to normal (instead of moderate hearing loss). The great news is that according to the ENT's scale, Jack gained 3 pounds in 2 months. He is now at 38.8!
