1st day of preschool

I've decided preschool is very, very bad. A place that you drop off your child -- your child! Your child that has been in your home, in your loving arms for 3 years, sheltered by our love. Now this place is going to expose him to different experiences that we have no control over. He'll met people we don't know. He'll be doing things we don't know about. He'll be on his own. Or rather is it that I'm now having to let go of my baby just a little bit....

My baby, who had no problem letting go of us. We talked last night about him going to his first day of preschool - how if someone had a toy, he would need to play with another toy; how if he had to go to the bathroom, he needed to tell his teacher; how if he had to go #2, he'd have to wipe himself; how he needs to listen to his teacher; how if a friend in school asks his name, he'll say "Jack, how do you do?"
This morning, he got up early and got into bed with us, falling asleep for about 30 more minutes -- allowing me precious time to just watch my baby, I mean, my little man, sleep. We got ready in the morning and on the way to preschool, we reviewed what we talked about last night. He even said that we couldn't be late for preschool.

When we got arrived, he grabbed his backpack, held my hand (or was it me holding his hand?) and walked right in. We waited just inside the classroom door as his classmate Charlie (also a train lover and had a matching Thomas the Train backpack) checked in. Then it was our turn. Jack put his backpack in his cubby, he found his picture on the wall and put it up in the "who is at school today" section while Scott signed him in. Mrs. Sneathen put his name tag on and then he was off. Literally, turned to say bye and started to walk away. We had to call him back to us to give us hugs and kisses good-bye - clearly more for us than for him. Then he went to his classmates and the trains without even looking back.
After we walked out of the classroom, I started to get choked up, shed a few tears and asked Scott (who had been holding Brooke the whole time) to hand me my baby!
