It never ceases to amazing me - this adoption community we've found ourselves in. There is something that just bonds you to people who have also adopted. A few months after Jack got home, I corresponded with a family from San Diego, who was adopting a little girl just about Jack's age. Although we lived just over an hour from each other, we just emailed for a couple years. Last year, we finally got together - several times.
And today, we were invited to their home to celebrate a Kazakh Christmas! Eight families gathered, all who had adopted from Kazakhstan or a bordering country. The kids spanned from 5 to 2 years old (Brooke was the youngest adoptee and most recent home). The kiddos played, the parents talked. After eating dinner, we did a present exchange and the kids did very well waiting their turn to open their presents.
It was a great way to celebrate our children's heritage and spend time with others who have walked in our shoes. It is amazing the comfort and ease you feel with other adopted parents; the common bond of adopting our children is a powerful thing.
