Brooke's Infectious Diseases Appt.

I took Brooke for her 3rd appointment with the Infectious Disease doctor. Since the last appointment in October, Brooke has had only 1 fever episode (in December). She had two other had mild fevers but those were associated with colds. The Dr. is now questioning if Brooke really has PFAPA or if it is something else or if it was PFAPA and now just going away. Typically PFAPA is reoccurring fevers every month. Brooke was having them every 2 months, then every month in 2009 and 2010, but since we've started seeing this Infectious Diseases doctor (July 2010), Brooke has only had 2 fever episodes.

The doctor doesn't feel we should medicate her with steroids when the fevers appear, nor do Scott and I. Since the last episode was five months after the prior one and was only for 2 days (vs. the normal 5 days), she is hopeful Brooke is growing out of it.... although typically children with PFAPA have it for years if they then grow out of it. But then again, not much is known about PFAPA.

So we wait and pray and hope that the fevers do not return.
