Dentist and 5 year old check up

This morning my parents helped me with taking the kids to the dentist. Jack had his second cleaning and his first set of x-rays. He did great - amazingly well. Brooke is still too young for an actual cleaning so the dentist just checked her teeth and she loved it.

In the afternoon, Dad came with me to Jack's 5 year old check up with our primary doctor. Interesting enough, his weight was 35lbs, which is interesting because at the GI appointment in February was 36lbs and at the ENT 2 weeks ago was 37lbs.... and I know he hasn't lost 2 pounds so some scale is off. But regardless, the PCP was very pleased with his overall weight gain. According to her charts, he is in the 10th percentile for both height - at 40.5 inches - and weight. The PCP says he is continuing to grow in an upward motion and is on the chart, so he was good!

His hearing was checked - a device was stuck in his ear and when he heard a beep, he was suppose to raise his hand. Unfortunately, he didn't do well with this but from his ENT visit, we knew there was fluid in his ears and his ear drums were recessed so she figured there would be an issue with that. Our PCP could tell he was having (probably) allergy issues, but since the ENT put Jack on nasal spray and sinus rinse, there wasn't much else to do. And she saw his eye issue but again, he is followed by an eye doctor to take care of that.

Developmentally he is doing great. He has accomplished all the check lists except one: -play cooperatively

-can draw a circle and a cross

-hops on 1 foot

-brushes teeth without help (although the dentist says we should help even up to age 9!)

-can walk on tip toes

-enjoys makes-believe/dress-up play

-enjoys friends

-cuts and pastes

-plays simple board games

-identifies 4-5 colors correctly (he can even do it in Spanish!)

-can tell a story/knows some nursery rhymes

-recognizes most letters of the alphabet (he knows all)

-can copy a triangle

-dresses/undresses self without supervision

-understands fair/unfair

-draws person with head, body, arms, legs, face (he even does fingers and toes)

-shows independence

-can count 10 objects

-prints some letters (he can do all)

-recalls part of a story

-writes first name (he can do last name too)

-knows right from left

-ties shoes.... this is the one he doesn't know

-plays well with other kids

-takes turns

-follow simple directions

-conforms to simple rules regarding behavior

-able to separate from home for half a day
