Jack's first tooth

Five years ago on January 9, 2007, we threw a little party at my parent's house for our friends and family in Northern CA to come and meet 9+ month old Jack. At that time, we could feel his bottom middle tooth starting to come in.

And now, just five years later, on January 14, 2012, he lost his first little tooth -- his bottom middle right tooth. It started to get wiggle about a month ago, but barely wiggle. We could move it with our fingers, but I didn't even think it was wiggle enough for him to move with his tongue. Of course, it was cramped in there between the other teeth so really, not much wiggle room to start with.

And this weekend, we were at my parent's house for my sister's baby shower. In the evening, the kids were in the bedroom watching a movie as we were at the front door saying good-bye to family guests. Jack comes running down the hallway saying, "my tooth came out!" I was in awe, but sure enough, he had his little tooth in hand and blood in his mouth.

He said he had been playing with it, and then it just came out! By the amount of blood, he must have been playing with it a lot and pulled it out. But no tears, just excitement on his part.

About an hour later, he comes running back to me saying another part of his tooth came out. WHAT?! He pulls out something white and puts it into my hand. Upon closer examination, it was a little white sprinkle (from a cup cake he had eaten earlier)!

The next morning, he looked under his pillow and was thrilled to find $5 (apparently the going rate for a 1st tooth, according to my friends). I told him that it must be something special to get $5 - probably for the first tooth. Jack said that he thought for a first tooth, he'd get $1,000!

He carried around the $5 for most of the day and told us that the person on the bill (Abraham Lincoln) made laws and put someone in jail for riding where he shouldn't have been. So it seems some schooling is sinking in. :)

And so my baby has lost his first baby tooth.... another sure sign (that I'm in denial about) that my baby is no longer a baby.
