There is a camp ground a few miles from our house (literally 10 minutes away). It is the type of camping that I can do. Easy, close and if something happens, we're close to home/hospital. Not to mention, Scott does all the prep work, packs up the car, sets up the entire camp, does all the cooking, tears down and gets us home again.
We went camping with some friends of ours whose son is 6 months older than Jack and their daughter is 7 months younger than Brooke. It was ideal! The kids played amazingly well together. The only squabbles were within each sibling set and even those were only a minute long. The kids played baseball, football, horseshoes, boccie ball, battleship, bean bag toss... you name it, they did it. Not to mention playing with bubbles, playing in the dirt, laying in the hammock, making s'mores (although I think us Mommies at more than the kiddos!). But I think the most surprising camping activity was the climbing. There was a huge tree in our camp site that somehow, had just the right branches to make "steps" for the kids the climb. I was in awe at how quickly the kids adapted to not only getting up into the tree but to continue to climb higher and higher within the tree. The below picture is of Jack (see blue pants) making his was up the tree -- he actually went higher post picture. To give an idea of height, the lowest branch was above my head.
And then, due to me overbooking us.... we went to an Angels baseball game Sunday afternoon. The kids were tired -- both fell asleep on the drive to the game, but then rallied for the game. Fortunately our seats were in the shade, which really saved us from the heat. Brooke loved dancing whenever any song came on. Jack enjoyed watching the 4 home runs the Angels scored!
